Been shooting from the hip and dazzling everyone along the way? Good for you! However, this week the cosmos takes a turn for the tonedown. But rather than spinning the slow jams, we’ll be tuning in to the practical magic. This Monday, August 22 the Sun wraps up its four-week tour of razzle dazzle Leo and moves on to by-the-books Virgo until September 22. After a month of neon-bright hedonism and unapologetic excess, we’re ready to boil it all back to basics. Embrace the power of purity, sustainability and simplicity: It’s the Virgo way. Get organized, set up savvy systems and make everything simpler with clever lifehacks. With the Sun in Virgo, minimalism reigns supreme. But that doesn’t have to equate with blandness or boredom! Virgo energy is both bohemian and sophisticated—call it “bophisticated,” if you will. How goods are produced is as important as how they look on the outside. With the Sun in this service-oriented sign we’ll get back in tune with our ethical natures. Skip the sweatshop specials (yeah, even if they’re dirt cheap) and support brands with conscious practices and production models. Virgo-time is all about healthy living, too. Squeeze some al fresco exercise into these last days of summer. Bike rides to the beach, yoga in the park, lap swims in the saltwater pool—fresh air does the body good. Go green! With earthy Virgo ruling the skies, it’s time to enjoy the summer harvest of fresh produce—all the better if it’s locally grown by independent farmers and rich with life-enhancing enzymes.

Momentum could stall midweek though, so brace yourself for a bit of frustration. On Wednesday, impatient Mars and take-it-slow Saturn meet for a totally awkward playdate at the same degree of Sagittarius. The effect is a bit like gunning the gas (Mars) and slamming on the brakes (Saturn) at the same time. We might feel as if our progress is waning and obstacles we didn’t foresee could be thrown in our paths. But don’t stress if you hit a speed bump. This is not the week to race ahead without a solid plan in place. Saturn is the ruler of time and doesn’t mind being the tortoise to Mars’ hare. Use this planetary merger to pop the hood and give those big ideas a tune-up. Make sure everything is really running like a well-oiled machine. Since both signs are in worldly Sagittarius, we could all afford to cast a wider net. Expand that search radius—but don’t overshoot the mark! That’s the challenge this planetary pairing brings.

Tread carefully on Friday though, when trance dancer Neptune floats into a confusing square with Mars, distorting your view. While the red planet is comfortable taking risks, Neptune isn’t the best at reinforcing sound judgment. Just be sure to look before you leap.

On Saturday, it’s Cupid FTW! Amorous Venus and expansive Jupiter meet at the same degree of Virgo, opening hearts everywhere. Harboring a secret crush? It’s safe to down Jupiter’s truth serum now because diplomatic, charming Venus will help us lay our feelings bare in the most enticing way. Forget typecasting: With open-minded Jupiter in the frame, cross-cultural connections will just click. Vacation romances will be strong under these skies, too. Whether single or spoken for, a change of scenery will be a mojo reviver. Don’t wait for Labor Day…just go!
