Secrets, subterfuge, scandal—seriously, world, can we stop this already? With combustible Mars simmering in Scorpio since May 27 it’s been one WTF headline after another. And don’t even get us started on all the personal drama this Mars phase has stirred up. But as of Tuesday, August 2 the red planet rises up from the underworld at last, elevating into Sagittarius, the sign that rules universal wisdom and higher truths. With Mars here until September 27 we can bring a little more law and order to our lives. Unite for togetherness instead of scrapping desperately for “power.” Mars’ descent in Scorpio might finally, actually, make sense in the days ahead. At the very least, we can crystallize some important lessons. Yes, emotions spiraled out of control; stress played out in insane—and violent—ways. But can we all see the futility of fighting dirty? Nothing. Gets. Achieved. Now’s the time to follow Michelle Obama’s brilliant lead: “When they go low, we go high,” she advised her daughters. Boom. With Mars in Sagittarius, rising up is the only way to win anything. And, as this diversity-loving sign reminds us: No one really wins unless everyone is counted. A continued focus on peace—in both the macro and micro corners of our personal worlds—adds a higher vision of love to the collective conscience.

Break out the passports and fire up the webcams (but please, leave the selfie sticks at home!) because Sagittarius is the globetrotting world traveler. This is a thrilling time for many to explore new vistas of our awesome planet or work together with people in distant lands on projects and business ventures. Enterprising Mars in Sagittarius will be a golden phase for independent business owners, writers, teachers and publishers. Warning: Mars in Sagittarius serves up more shots than a frat house fete—but of truth serum, not bargain-bin tequila. Honesty is indeed the best policy, as long as tact and compassion don’t leave the building.

Also on Tuesday, there will be a new moon in fiery Leo—which will make a positive angle to Mars. If you’re having trouble tapping into your fierceness, expect a confidence boost now. This is a powerful time to initiate creative projects, dive back into the dating pool, or rev up romance with a new interest or long-term love. This new moon flips on our self-expression switches. Work on “branding” to make sure your outsides are a reflection of the genius within. Call in wardrobe and styling and splurge a little on the pampering process. First impressions can leave an indelible mark, and this new moon asks: How do you want to shine in the world?

On Friday, romantic Venus vectors into Virgo until August 29, proving that chivalry isn’t actually dead after all. Save the sexy Snapchatting until September. Love could get downright Victorian for the next few weeks! Of course, in that bygone era when showing even a hint of an ankle was considered a disgrace, there was plenty of scandal going on behind the heavy chamber doors. No need to take a vow of celibacy. Just remember: What happens in the boudoir should stay in the boudoir. Aesthetically, that which is louche or “inappropriate” will NOT be en vogue while Venus is Virgo-ing out.
