Your Weekly Horoscope
Jan 25th-Jan 31st:
Let’s talk about those 2016 resolutions, shall we? Yes, again. Because those make-better plans will finally get some traction this week, thanks to some help from the heavens. First on deck is Mercury. On Monday, January 25 the strategic planet corrects its course after a befuddling three-week retrograde.
Since January 5 Mercury has been driving in reverse—and primarily through the terrain of ambitious, goal-setting Capricorn at that! Not exactly divine timing for starting the New Year off on a productive note. “Man plans, the universe laughs,” could pretty much be the mantra of this retrograde.
For the past few weeks, the road to hell was paved with good intentions…not to mention rescheduled appointments, sporadically used gym memberships, and projects that quickly ballooned into chaotic complexities. Talk about starting the year off on an irritating note! (And let’s not even discuss the electronic equipment that went haywire in early January.) But this week, we can truly turn to a clean page as Mercury’s U-turn is all, “Hello and welcome to 2016!”
Until February 13, Mercury will speed forward through Capricorn, bringing a boost to our professional lives and fitness goals. Before running to the Apple Store for an iPad Air or booking the next flight to Bali, tend to more practical matters. Perhaps an investment in a FitBit and a few sessions with a trainer would be money better spent right now?
Career is Capricorn’s domain and Mercury’s direct motion helps us run our loftiest desires through the reality filter this week. Review plans made earlier in the month. Were they “too much, too soon” or maybe not quite big enough? It’s safe to schedule power lunches, pitch meetings and strategy sessions again, knowing that they’ll actually be productive.
On Saturday, Mercury will connect to powerhouse Pluto for the third of a trio of conjunctions. The first was on December 19 while Mercury was direct, the second on January 22 during the retrograde. In addition to bringing intuitive hits and transformative insights, these tete-a-tetes made us face our buried thoughts…the kind we’d DIE if anyone ever knew we were thinking.
Pluto is the keeper of our deepest secrets and darkest shadows. Combined with mental Mercury, our inner Darth Vaders had a turn at the wheel. And may have even blurted some “hateful” sentiments aloud in the heat of the moment. Lord have mercy. But as any therapist worth their salt knows, repressing our shadow sides is just a recipe for disaster.
Given that this is the final Mercury-Pluto meetup of the trilogy, we can do some proper digging and dissecting of any unsavory behaviors we displayed since December 19. Start with the seven deadly sins: anger, pride, envy…you know (http://www.deadlysins.com/). Instead of reacting to those emotions, probing Pluto wants us to dive in and figure out what is REALLY driving them. What aren’t we admitting to ourselves that we really, really want? And what wishes are we afraid to speak aloud? Instead of pushing them down and hating on other people, we need to find constructive ways to fulfill these longings.
Pluto is the “extreme makeover” planet in astrology so this won’t be gentle. Something must die for something new to be (re)born—and that could be the actual circumstances or simply a cluster of limiting thoughts and beliefs that are making us resentful and bitter. It’s wise to have healthy boundaries and to be selective about the people we let into our lives. But hanging on to grudges? Poisonous.
Serendipitously, Sunday arrives with a quarter moon in Scorpio, the zodiac sign that is governed by Pluto. Despite the intensity of a Scorpio lunation, these balancing moonbeams can actually help with the parsing process. If a situation is bringing us nonstop anger and pain, something’s got to give! And proactively speaking, how can we make our 2016 missions, well…sexier?
Instead of routines, create rituals. Little things, like burning a scented candle or rubbing aromatic essential oil onto your palms (deeeeep inhale) can stimulate the senses as we power through mundane tasks. Jealousy may bubble up, but how can we use that envy constructively? Instead of “coveting thy neighbor” create an original remix of what they have—one that borrows inspiration but draws on originality, too.
