“The mind grows by what it feeds on.” J. G. Holland

We all can achieve a healthy mind, body, and soul through food. Many people tell me they do not have the time to eat healthy. Despite popular belief, healthy eating does not have to involve lengthy, complicated recipes with complex ingredients.

We can start with some natural, simple ingredients found at your local grocery store. These simple foods can do wonders for your body when you make them part of your daily diet.

1. Oregano:
Dehydrated oregano is one of the most abundant food sources of luteolin, a plant compound with potent antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and neuroprotective properties.

The combination of these helps improve the cognitive functions of the brain. Because of its neuroprotective nature, oregano prevents the death of nerve cells, improving the nervous system. An improved nervous system is characterized by overall better brain function, better balance, enhanced perception and increased responsiveness. Oregano also influences positive mood changes.

2. Dark chocolate:
Dark chocolate has lots of surprising benefits. Many dark chocolate benefits come from antioxidant compounds, epicatechin, catechin, and procyanidins, along with flavonoids and polyphenols.

These antioxidants help reduce inflammation, regulates glucose levels, slowing aging, and responsible for putting an end to DNA damage.

Dark chocolate is rich in fiber, iron, magnesium, copper, manganese and a few other minerals. Dark chocolate is stimulating and energizing.

According to research, people who eat chocolate once a week tend to have better cognitive activity. An improved cognitive state means better memory, scanning, tracking, and abstract reasoning skills.

Chocolate has methylxanthine, a plant-produced compound that enhances various bodily functions.

3. Walnuts:
Walnuts are rich in omega-3 fatty acids, which have beneficial effects on brain function. Walnuts are also a good source of protein and fiber. Walnuts are also a good source of the fat-soluble vitamin, vitamin E which has antioxidant properties

4. Avocados:
Avocados reduce low-density lipoproteins, which are damaging to your health, and increase high-density lipoproteins.  Avocados contain significant amounts of potassium, an ion essential for maintaining healthy blood pressure. It is also rich in vitamin K which improves the body’s blood clotting. Moreover, avocados are a good source of folate, an essential substance for nerve cell health.

5. Blueberries:
Blueberries have a unique combination of phytonutrients and anti-inflammatory, which help reduce cardiovascular disease, improve blood sugar levels, improves cognitive function and have cancer preventing and tumor suppressing properties.

Blueberries are also an excellent source of vitamin K, vitamin C, and manganese as well as a good source of fiber and copper.

Recent Tufts University research suggests that the consumption of blueberries may be useful in improving or delaying short-term memory loss.

6. Broccoli:
This power packed vegetable has also shown to have positive effects on cognitive activity. Research has revealed that broccoli is high in glucosinolates, a group of compounds that can halt the decline of the neurotransmitter acetylcholine, which is necessary for the central nervous system to perform.

These foods are not only packed with nutritional power, but they are also relatively inexpensive. Toss these foods into your daily diet and reap the benefits!

Everyone is so detached today that it affects them in more ways than one. The toll takes on the mental, physical and even, the emotional aspect. It manifests in different people in a variety of ways, but there is one common pattern – everyone is in need of re-connecting and getting their life back on the track.

I offer a variety of services in the field of nutrition and energy healing for people emotionally, mentally, or even physically. I believe the right mind-set and the right food can help you overcome stress and an unhealthy emotional eating pattern. I focus on the mind-body connection and how it affects personal well-being. And definitely not with harsh diets that further leave you disconnected with the journey you are on.
