The days go by slow and the years go fast ...
My Dad’s Celebration of Life is tomorrow. I honestly don’t understand this new world we live in where we share everything about our lives on social media. But we do. Why? I don’t know but we do. So, I want to share a few things I’ve learned about life in just the past few weeks since my father’s death.
ᴛʜᴇ ᴅᴀʏꜱ ᴀʀᴇ ʟᴏɴɢ ʙᴜᴛ ᴛʜᴇ ʏᴇᴀʀꜱ ᴀʀᴇ ꜱʜᴏʀᴛ.
The daily stuff we all struggle with, the grudges, hurts, sorrow, stress…. desperate to be loved and accepted and admired and approved of…. while at the same time, making your point, defending yourself, trying to stand up for yourself and feel okay about yourself …. and all the stuff that goes with it, seem so urgent and important at the moment but it’s all just one big distraction.
ʏᴏᴜ ᴀʀᴇ ʟᴏᴠᴇᴅ. ʏᴏᴜ ᴀʀᴇ ʟᴏᴠᴇ. ᴀʟʀᴇᴀᴅʏ. ꜱᴏ ᴀʀᴇ ᴛʜᴇʏ.
Besides, who has time to really be happy and to create our OWN best life when we’re caught up in the drama that FEELS SO REAL?
In the end, you won’t remember any of it and you’ll just wish you took the high road, saw each other as ‘the people we all are’ — wounded, healed, whole and broken all at the same time, all just trying to figure out this thing called life.
Set your boundaries to teach people how to treat you but don’t put up a barbed-wire fence.
Time can soften the wounds. If you want to be softer. If being hard is too hard.
We have the power to change the narrative, to rewrite the story, to look back through different lenses.
It takes so much courage to see things through neutral lenses.
When we don’t work through our anger — even if it’s justifiable —
it will eventually implode on us and hurt us.
Pride and dignity are so important to get yourself out of demeaning and dysfunctional situations or relationships but staying in pride and dignity will rob you of joy and peace of mind.
In the end, the only thing that will matter is the people who love you. You can’t take your Rolex with you. Your car will stay sitting in your driveway. And all your designer suits will go to charity.
They are nice to haves but certainly won’t matter one single bit if you traded off love and let down the people who SHOULD have mattered most.
Don’t let pride or shame prevent you from doing it differently now.
No one is getting out of here alive. So LIVE LIFE full out. What the hell are we waiting for???
Oh and take tons of pictures along the way… you’ll be so glad you did. You might see yourself today and say … no, I don’t look good enough…. (aren’t we all so done with this???? We are who we are!!! We look how we look!) but one day, memories are all you’ll have.
