Let’s just lay it all on the table – when you choose an eating clean lifestyle there are just some foods you cannot eat.

The cold, hard truth is that wholesome foods are not found in a box or bottle. They are made in your kitchen (with love… sorry we just had to throw that cliché in). And out of ALL the processed foods and ingredients out there, there are three that you need to avoid – at all costs.

the top 3 worst foods you can eat:

1. Aspartame and Splenda.

If you drink any diet soda, eat any reduced-calorie, or low-calorie manufactured food you are most likely consuming one of these artificial sweeteners, and they have got to go. NOW.

Aspartame has long been proven to have major neurological side effects. In fact, almost 2/3 of all reported side effects are neurological and with 10,000 estimated reports the FDA believes that is probably only 1% of the people actually reporting a reaction. How’s that for putting things in perspective?

Not only that, both artificial sweeteners will add to weight gain. Sounds odd for a 0 calorie sweetener, but both actually causes the slowing of your metabolism and increases your appetite.

Do this instead: Sweeten foods, or drinks with a little raw honey, pure maple syrup or blackstrap molasses. We also love to sweeten our water naturally with fresh fruit or herbs, or we also recommend drinking fresh pressed juice.

2. Refined Flours.

The average American eats around 10 servings of refined grains each day – are you one of them? If you aren’t a label reader, or if you buy lots of packaged foods, we can almost guarantee that you are part of the statistic.

The problem with refined flours is that they are devoid of nutrients, loaded with calories and they require extra nutrients for your body to properly deal with this toxic food. This is what we call a lose-lose situation!

Do this instead: Make sure your carbohydrates consume only 1/4 of your plate (with protein a 1/4 too, and produce the other 1/2). Swap out refined flours for whole-grain flour, whole-grain spelt flour, black bean flour, quinoa flour or almond meal.

3. Breakfast Cereals. Yes, we are talking about your beloved morning ritual of eating your cereal. During processing, the extreme heat kills off any vitamins or minerals that would have made this breakfast healthy to begin with. So, by the time the cereal reaches your table from the field – it’s not only useless to your body, it’s detrimental. Even “fortified” cereals are fortified with synthetic (man-made) nutrients. How good could that be for you, really?

Do this instead: Oatmeal, quinoa or homemade healthy granola can be great morning options that are quick, easy and super yummy!
