Finding Peace When You've Lost Someone from Addiction: How Mediumship Can Help the Healing Process
By Sunny Dawn Johnston
Addiction and death: Two of the most difficult and challenging experiences anyone can walk through as a human being. The loss of our loved ones to the disease of addiction is an endless sea of emotions. Yet, when the end comes, the death of a loved one due to addiction can feel like the final chapter of a very long and sad book. So much still left unwritten, unsaid, and unheard that it haunts your sleep and steals your joy.
What if that wasn’t true? What if you could tap into the energy of your loved one in Spirit and connect with their Soul? What if you could have that opportunity to make amends with their journey, find peace in their process and truly have forgiveness for their choices… and yours? Would you choose to?
A Medium is, simply stated, a communicator, bridging the gap between the physical and non-physical (Spirit) world. They act as a telephone to the Spirit world, receiving messages, images and visions that those not trained may not notice or recognize. Mediums can help you to understand the messages that your mind doesn’t know how to interpret… or that your consciousness can’t allow in. Ultimately, a medium can help support awareness, healing and closure… for all involved. This healing comes through the energy of Love.
Mediums can help you find peace in the pain by helping you connect to the foundation of your relationship with your loved one in Spirit… Love. The reason we feel so much pain when someone transitions, especially from addiction, is because we loved them so much. Sometimes that love was expressed in unhealthy ways… investing all of our time, energy and money into them… literally our body, mind and soul. So much so that we have nothing left for ourselves. No life force energy, no will, no love… therefore feeling an even greater sense of loss, separation and finality when they pass. The key is to find the LOVE again; the love for yourself and the love for those that are in Spirit. The truth is, the love never ends, it just needs to be rediscovered.
When a Medium connects with a loved one in Spirit, the message is, generally speaking, all about LOVE. The loved ones that have passed realize, not only the pain that they caused their family and friends while in their addiction, but also the pain they are dealing with now that they are dead. The guilt, the shame, the unbelievable pain… they were able to see and feel it all. They are not “stuck” in it; however, the more stuck we are here, the more they feel it there. In my experience, those in Spirit are extremely apologetic and want nothing more than to share their love with those they left behind. They have a full 360 degree view of every action, or inaction that took place in their physical lives. They see clearly, now that the fog of addiction is lifted, why things were as they were. In my experience, they harbor no anger, resentment or hurt… only LOVE. They see what couldn’t be seen when they were living. The medium is able to help you get the answers to the why’s and how’s. They want deeply to heal the pain they caused. The challenge then is for you, and them, to forgive and heal. The way to do that is through LOVE.
Love is a force of nature that is bigger than all of us, an energy that moves through us all. It is a connection shared with another. It is the light within us. It is our heart connection. And… it never dies. No matter how much our pain may trick us into thinking we want to, we cannot control, demand or dissipate love any more than we can control the sun rising each morning. Love lives on in our hearts, our memories, our stories and Yes, in our connections.
Ultimately, you yourself have the power to heal your heart and connect with your loved ones in Spirit. A medium simply helps you translate the messages you haven’t been recognizing. The bottom line is…you have the heart connection, the love… therefore, YOU are the greatest connection to your loved ones in Spirit. YOU yourself are a medium to your loved ones… Stay in your heart, be open and ask for the signs… they are all around.
Remember, true love, regardless of how someone passes, never ends – it just changes form.
