How The Right Breakfast Can Help You With Your Weight Loss Plan
Written by Julie Daniluk RHN, TV Host and Nutritionist
When talking to readers about their dietary concerns one of the first things they ask me about is breakfast or more specifically, breakfast cereal. For a large portion of the North American population, a bowl of cold breakfast cereal is a normal way to start the day. Bacon, eggs and toast might be an option for the weekend but people on the go want something quick and convenient. Problem is that convenience is one of the worst ways to start your day. The content of most cereals is no better than the average cookie yet they are marketed as healthy. Many cereals will spike your blood sugar and give an unhealthy dose of trans fats, preservatives, artificial dyes, flavours and other chemicals. Many are also made with GMO corn, soy and sweetened with High Fructose Corn Syrup.
My nephew Taevan and I took a stroll down the cereal isle at a local grocery store and filmed what we found. Click here to watch our video!
Monster Superfood Breakfast from my new book, Slimming Meals That Heal.
While I like to encourage people to start their day with alkalizing vegetables and healthy sources of protein, occasionally we wake up in the mood for something sweet – it happens! It is important to listen to what your body wants so I just make sure that when it happens, I pair it with healthy lean protein and good fat. This slows down the absorption of sugar into the bloodstream and helps to prevent the highs and lows of the blood sugar rollercoaster! (Makes 1 serving.)
Ingredients:
1 cup apple sauce
1 tsp spirulina powder
2 Tbsp hemp hearts
1/2 tsp cinnamon
2 tsp hemp protein powder
1 Tbsp pumpkin seeds
1 tsp raw honey
1/2 tsp organic vanilla extract
Optional ultimate health boosters:
1/2 tsp maca powder
2 tsp Ascenta HP Fish Oil
1 Tbsp lecithin granules (make sure they are GMO-free)
Directions:
1) Combine all ingredients and desired boosters in a bowl and mix well.
