Navigating The New World: Staying Sane And Successful During The Pandemic
By Tani Morgan
The world has changed drastically in an instant and left most of us feeling uncomfortable, uneasy and unsure of what’s to come. The COVID-19 outbreak has disrupted our lives, our businesses and our peace of mind.
While there are many practical guidelines on how to physically survive this pandemic, I’ve yet to see a guide on how to survive on a mental, emotional or spiritual level or any advice on how to make sure your business survives these crazy times.
So I’ve created it for you here.
The global COVID-19 outbreak is very similar to a personal dark night of the soul where a person experiences a period of disconnection, desolation, and darkness in which one feels very separate from the Divine.
The COVID-19 virus is leaving many of us feeling like this right now, quarantined or self-isolated away from friends and family, worrying about our livelihood and unsure of what is to come next.
And this is when the fear of the unknown starts to creep in…
Here’s what you need to know:
- This time will feel scary– not knowing how long we will be in quarantine or self isolation, what will happen to our friends and family, what will happen to us, to our businesses, to the economy, and what the world will look like after this is all said and done. Fear is simply an emotion, an energy that keeps us safe and now is the time to know we can learn to accept it, experience it and release it. We have control over how much fear we live in.
- This time will be our greatest teacher by shining light on what is not real, what is fragile and what needs to change, evolve and release. This time is hard and it will pass. We’ll keep going, adapt and learn. We will grow and expand dramatically by embracing the change and being open to a new way of doing things, a new way of life even. If we let it, the pandemic could become a blessing in disguise. You have an opportunity here to thrive in the face of adversity. Will you take it?
- This time will show us that our true nature is a pure, peaceful and blissful essence. It will show us our eternal self, our divine SoulSelf if we let it. Once we get a glimpse, we can keep pulling back layers of our programming to fully embody her, to start living as your SoulSelf. Your SoulSelf is who you need to be to be of the greatest service to this planet. This is the time to truly know her.
As soon as I saw the parallels between the COVID-19 pandemic and a personal dark night of the soul, I knew I was meant to write this guide for you because the Universe had trained me for this very moment.
I received my training for this just last year. I experienced a personal Dark Night of the Soul and felt like the ground had been ripped out from beneath me. I had worked for years to create a life that I loved and suddenly I felt like my life was crumbling and I would lose it all…
While you are experiencing a dark night of the soul, it feels like melancholy and you feel disconnected from others and the divine. You wonder, “What is the point of life? Why am I alive? Why is this happening? What is our purpose here? ” For me, it felt like an existential crisis. I had everything that was supposed to make me happy and yet I wanted to run away, I even wanted to die to be reunited with my soul. I didn’t understand the point of being alive.
I found it comforting to know that what I was experiencing, was a dark night of the soul, that it would pass and that it would leave me better than I was before.
That it would somehow serve me.
That is the blessing of a dark night of the soul, it leaves you better off that before.
And it did pass and the COVID-19 pandemic will pass too and leave us stronger, more resilient and wiser than before.
In my personal experience, it was amazing how the dark night of the soul passed. Once I finally fully surrendered and got to the point where I was willing to lose it all, there was the key to my breakthrough. I suddenly woke up one morning with the personal power to say no to the destructive habits that had been consuming me during the darkness. I felt differently, I felt empowered, I felt magical, I felt supported by the Divine.
This was my state of grace and it had been sent from above.
And my life felt transformed and even wondrous again. I felt better than I had in a very long time. My creative block was gone and my inspiration was flowing again, I felt energized and empowered to get my to-do list done. It felt miraculous and I was so grateful.
This pandemic will pass, and we will all rise up back to the light. These are my 6 tips on how to survive and thrive mentally, emotionally and spiritually until then:
- Empower Your Human Self
Keep your immunity, health and state of mind high. Take care of your physical body to the best of your ability and empower yourself to do what you can to make your life look the way you want it (while still following pandemic guidelines for containment and mitigation). Get outside and breathe the fresh air, feel the sun on your face, sing, laugh and dance. - Express Your Emotions
Allow, experience and express any emotions that come up. Any and all feelings deserve to be accepted, contemplated and embraced. Feel sad for those affected, grieve the loss you feel due to your change in lifestyle. Allow tears to flow, use your voice and/or move your body to allow the energetics of the emotions to leave your body. Have compassion for yourself and others. Journaling is an excellent way to express emotions in a healthy way. - Connection
In this time of isolation, we must connect with ourselves, with our higher power, with our loved ones and our community. Lean into the support you have around you. Reach out for support when you need it. Isolate physically but not emotionally. Call your friends and family and have hour long conversations like we used to when the phone was still attached to the wall. - Inquiry & Contemplation
Find stillness, go within and contemplate what is really important to you. What are your values? What are your priorities? What do you want more of in life? What do you want less of? What needs to change? Keep working on uncovering the true you, your highest expression of self, your soul-self. This is where the true blessing comes in. You are purifying anything that no longer serves you and are re- discovering your highest expression of self. - Surrender
Surrender to it all. We never had control anyway, it was all an illusion. Lean in to the discomfort, get curious about, accept, and embrace the unknown and whatever changes are occurring. Find the peace that lays underneath the other emotions by leaning in. Repeat. - Keep Your Faith
Hold faith in your higher power. Trust that God, the Universe, Buddha, Source (or whatever you call the Divine) has your back and that whatever happens, it was meant to be and that it’s for your and our higher good. Even if it doesn’t feel possible to believe it right now, let it wander in your mind. Ask “How could this be in my highest good? How could this be teaching me something?”
Pray for strength, for support, for grace, for others, for yourself. Ask your higher power to support you during this time and believe that it will happen. It will.
For entrepreneurs, this time is particularly unnerving. Here is how you ensure your business survives
COVID-19:
- Continue showing up, connecting with and serving your community. They need you more than ever to lead the way.
- Be innovative and creative – find new solutions & offerings to provide your clients, uncover new ways of doing things and create new mindsets and thoughts to help you succeed.
- Review and eliminate any unnecessary expenses. Continue to talk about & offer your services.
- Improve your audience & customer’s experience if you can. Offer more free gifts, valuable content and support.
- Deepen your own spiritual connection & practice. Move through your own emotions so that you can lead the way for others.
- Hold a positive vision of the future. This is crucial!
Taking these steps will ensure that this time of darkness becomes your catalyst for the greatest growth and expansion that you have ever experienced. And together, we can change the world.
I believe that COVID-19 is the earth’s dark night of the soul. It’s the earth’s catalyst to wake up and make changes that should have been made long ago. Now is the time. We are the light-workers, the change-makers, the empaths, the artists, creatives and the healers. We’ve been preparing for these times.
It’s our job to move through our own grief, sadness and discomfort so that we can rise up and hold the vibration of calm, groundedness, peace and grace during this time.
