Loving Your Younger Self
Have you ever found a picture of yourself when you were little and felt sad? Well, not necessarily immediately sad; we usually smile when seeing ourselves as children. But as you look into her innocent young eyes, you know what’s in store for her. You know the abuse that is coming. The heartbreak. The letdowns. The hurts. The lies. You know about the trajectory-changing moments that lay ahead. And that is what makes you sad.
But, imagine being able to go back and talk to your little, young Self, even your toddler Self. Imagine you as a grown woman, being able to hold her, hug her, love her, and guide her. Now.
I’ve discovered this is one of the best ways to heal our Daughter Energy. When I see this picture of little me at age 2 or 3, I close my eyes and picture little her in my mind’s eye. I see us hugging. I see Adult Me telling Little Me that even though there are some tough times ahead, her life is going to be incredible. She is incredible.
I tell her to always talk to me, to call on me, to know I’ll never forsake her, that I’ll never leave her. I’ll never abuse her. I’ll always love her. It gives me tremendous relief.
What about you? What would you say to your younger Self? How could you better prepare her for life and what’s in store for her–for you?
As you move through this holiday season, especially if you have stress or anxiety, continue to remind yourself that you still have that little girl inside. Remind yourself that when you feel overwhelmed, afraid, hurt, or insecure, it is HER who needs your love. It is she who needs your kind words. Your affirmation. Your support, encouragement, and belief.
My Empowerment Tip:
Find a picture of yourself as a child. Frame it on your desk. Get to know her (you) better by dialoguing with ‘her’ in your journal. Ask her what she feels? What she worries about? What she wants?
Journaling like this is a great way to become your own best friend. Remember, no one can take care of her now better than you. In fact, you can be your own mother. Your own cheerleader. Your own greatest fan.
Happy Holidays,
Crystal
