I chose the path less travelled ~ A poem
I was sitting outside yesterday morning, quite early, listening to the birds chirping, and these words spilled out onto the page. I felt compelled to share them with you today in the hopes it might inspire you to pick up the pen and put your own feelings and thoughts down, too. For me, there is nothing more cathartic and healing than writing. It helps me own my stories so that they don’t own me. I don’t normally write poetry, but this one flowed so effortlessly that I thought I’d share it with you. ❤️
I chose the path less travelled.
Or maybe it chose me.
I took the rocky route.
And often wondered, who is she?
I walked through fear and loneliness.
I screamed her name out loud.
I waited her reply, but she knew I took that vow.
My quest is pretty simple: It’s discovering the real true me.
But without the trials and tribulations, who on earth would I have been?
Did they really make me who I am, or did they change me at my core?
Would I have become so fierce and furious, a lioness’ roar
Ruffling feathers sucks, you see.
It’s not easy to be me.
I push and poke, I laugh, I joke.
But rarely do I see any alternative to being anything but me.
I chose the path less travelled.
I’ve weathered many storms.
I climbed through shattered windows and broke down battered doors.
I stand upon my rock; I look out at my pride.
I know it wasn’t easy, and many times, I’ve cried.
Smile sweet, bite your tongue, and slowly feel it bleed.
No, I can’t. I can’t. The blood is draining out of me.
So I write down all my stories,
I share my sorrow and pain.
I ruffle too many feathers,
and softly hear my name.
Shame, shame. Shame, shame.
Be nice.
Be quiet.
Stop smiling so big.
Stop laughing out so loud.
Stop looking for attention; why do you always need a crowd?
Just be a lovely lady.
And go sit your ass back down.
Cuz with that lovely face, you can be anything you want to be.
As long as you don’t ruffle feathers,
You can pretend that you are free.
I chose the path less travelled.
Or maybe it chose me.
I took the rocky route.
And often wondered who is she.
I walked through fear and loneliness.
I screamed her name out loud.
I waited her reply, but I knew I took that vow.
So I write it down. I write it down. I write it down.
All I know for certain
Is that who I’m meant to be
Is the most authentic, realized version
of the woman inside of me.
So, please, just let me be
Just let me be. Let me be.
All I want is to be me. To be free. To be me.
To be me.
Huge love, Crystal
