get off the roller coaster of limiting beliefs with Kathi Casey
Have you ever wondered why you keep doing the same thing over and over – even when you know it’s bad for you? We all do it.
Maybe you skip lunch because you have so much work, but then when you are too tired to complete everything and/or make a mistake in your rushing, you realize that if you had just taken 10 minutes to walk around the block while eating an apple, the afternoon would have gone so much smoother. It’s pretty normal human behavior. Intellectually we all know what we need to do to take care of ourselves, so why is it so hard to keep up the work on a regular basis, or why do we so often put it on the back burner for other things?
Well, many masters I have studied blame it on history. Our mind thinks we can accomplish more than we can because it has been programmed to think that by our past behavior. Or our subconscious automatically wants to overwork because that makes us feel like we’re doing something.
OK, time to STOP that roller coaster and get off. All the healthy older people I know have a regular exercise regime that they stick to. They spend time each day meditating or going outside to smell the roses. These are the 70-80 yr. olds who are still running, biking, planting their gardens, playing tennis, with no high blood pressure, no diabetes and they can remember what they had for lunch yesterday!
I want to be that healthy until I leave the planet. I know that you do too, so today I’m giving you a technique for how to retrain your subconscious mind to help you, instead of continuing to work against you.
Morning Pages from The Artists Way by Julia Cameron
These take only minutes, yet can be a powerful influencer of our day. The process is to write out three pages every morning before you start your day – strictly stream of consciousness. Julia insists on hand written pages in her book and courses, however, I know someone who does this regularly on her computer and it works fine for her. As long as you do nothing else but this (no Facebook, news or email) you should be fine.
For instance, you may look out the window and see it’s dirty and think “I need to wash the windows,” write it down. You may wake up feeling tired because you didn’t sleep well, write that down. These pages are a brain dump. Writing everything that comes to your mind helps to clear your mind before your day begins. Nothing is too silly or too weird to be included. Simply write everything down until you fill three full pages. Sometimes your pages may be filled with negativity, or silliness, fragmented or funny lines. Sometimes you may find yourself repeating the same thing several days in a row; it doesn’t matter. Just write three pages and the next day write three more and so on. Use an inexpensive spiral notebook, you don’t need anything fancy.
These pages are meant to help you reduce your limiting beliefs about yourself, quiet your inner critic, rediscover your innate creativity and passion, and ignite your life. When you write these things down, the emotions associated with them are also released so you feel better about yourself. If this resonates with you, try it for 30 days and then re-evaluate.
