Featured Simply Woman Superstar - Sharmeen Baria
By Crystal Andrus Morissette, founder of Simply Woman Magazine + The S.W.A.T. Institute
Our featured Simply Woman Superstar this week is Sharmeen Baria.
I’m incredibly excited to welcome Sharmeen. Not only is she one of the most kind, fiercely loyal, loving, and hardworking women I know, but I’ve also had the pleasure of working with her and getting to know her 1-on-1 over the last year and a half. I truly know how fabulous she is!
Sharmeen immigrated from Pakistan to the United States on June 16th, 1985, three days after her 17th birthday. Leaving her home and moving to a brand-new country was eye-opening as she navigated, trying to assimilate to Western culture’s unfamiliar ways. And although it was difficult, she learned to truly value and respect cultural diversity and the idea that no matter where you’re from, our hopes, goals, and aspirations are the same. Immigrating taught her that change and transition, although sometimes uncomfortable, are necessary to lead a successful life, as life is ever-changing.
Having been blessed with wonderful family and friends, Sharmeen learned firsthand from those around her that “the kind of life you lead depends on the meaning you place on your life events,” she recalls. She remembers nursing injured animals back to health and learning the importance of being kind and respectful to those around you; values that she proudly carried on and taught to her own beautiful, successful children too.
One of Sharmeen’s most life-changing events was deciding to leave her abusive marriage of twelve years. At the time, she felt trapped due to cultural and societal norms and spent many sleepless nights worrying about her young children and what would happen to them. Being courageous and empowered enough to leave her husband allowed her to realize the power of surrender, letting go of things that no longer served her highest purpose in life.
“I became conscious to the fact that when things in your life seem to take its toll and burden your heart, then allowing those things to “die” is the best thing you can do to free your spirit. My divorce represented to me the death of my marriage. However, from this death also arose something new and beautiful – my most authentic self as I was no longer afraid to hide in the shadows of the darkness of shame but to fully embrace and shine my light brightly to reclaim once again my most authentic self and learning to become “Free to Be Me!” all over again.”
Apart from holding multiple degrees, including a Master of Social Work and a Bachelor of Metaphysics, Sharmeen is also multi-certified in Reiki and a Certified Empowerment Coach through The S.W.A.T. Institute. She has recently launched a brand-new website with services like Empowerment Coaching and Intuitive Counseling, to name a few. Having worked in the world-renowned Texas Medical Center for over 20 years, Sharmeen has also launched a six-week meditation program called the Healthcare Professionals Program that teaches healthcare professionals how to better deal and cope with their feelings of overwhelm and stress, as they selflessly strive to make a difference in the lives of their patients while navigating the COVID-19 pandemic themselves.
Be sure to watch our conversation on November 12th at 4 pm ET/3 pm CT/1 pm PT on Facebook Live, as we chat about empowerment, spirituality, finding yourself, and much more. Click here!
