featured simply woman superstar - Sandika Joy
By Crystal Andrus Morissette, founder of Simply Woman Magazine + The S.W.A.T. Institute
I am so excited to share this week’s featured Simply Woman Superstar with you – Sandika Joy Evergreen!
Sandika Joy is one of the most special young women I’ve ever met. I would consider her “the Real Deal!”
After struggling with years of depression, anxiety, and eventually, severe tendonitis in her hands and arms, Sandika Joy remembers the day she piled everything she could fit into her car to move across Canada from Manitoba to the West Coast. With braces on her arms and only $1000 in her bank account, she continued to remind herself of the great Rumi quote, “Let yourself be silently drawn by the strange pull of what you truly love, it will not lead you astray.”
Sandika Joy says, “I drove away from all the people, places, and things that reminded me of who I thought I was. It took courage, willingness, and belief in myself, something I’d never had before. I guess hitting rock bottom was what I needed to start looking up!”
She first stayed in the Okanagan Valley in British Columbia and met some wonderful friends there. She volunteered with horses at a horse rescue. And spent lots of time exploring nature; she hiked up mountains, joined a women’s circle, and a fitness Bootcamp. She read books about health and wellness and went to workshops and conferences. She changed her eating habits, went to meditation groups, and connected with people, healers, and a community she had never experienced before. She got a good office job that put no extra pressure on her body. She was healing. And the depression was lifting, and the anxiety was subsiding.
She was finally standing on her own two feet! And it was all because of the choices she made and not because of someone else making them for her! That’s when she decided to become a coach.
Her first certification was at Rhodes Wellness College in Vancouver. She celebrated her graduation by taking the trip of her dreams to Bali with some of her classmates. There they met a wise healer who held a ceremony for her in which he gave her the name “Sandika,” meaning “moving forward in life and a smart girl” (something she’d never believed she was).
He said, “With this new name, your problems won’t be problems anymore.” He laughed as he said this, almost as though he could see a future she didn’t yet. He said she would create “love magic.”
Sandika Joy has not only created love magic, but she’s also fallen in love with her soul mate, and together they’ve created a magical life on a tiny, off-the-grid island, called Lasqueti. She is now a certified Empowerment Coach and the Mentorship Coach Coordinator at the S.W.A.T. Institute. She also offers retreats and adventures for women who want to leave the chaos of their busy lives behind. And has recently opened “Sandika’s Studio,” an oceanfront full-service hair salon, that is Lasqueti’s first-ever hair salon — something huge for an off-the-grid island, where many people don’t have running or hot water.
Be sure to join us for a fun conversation on September 24th at 4 pm ET / 1 pm PT on Facebook Live, as we chat about empowerment, women in business, living off the grid, plus much more! Click here to join us on my fan page!
