featured simply woman superstar – Christina Smith
Our featured Simply Woman Superstar this week is Christina Smith. Christina has worked as a domestic abuse counselor for 30 years, helping countless women leave abusive relationships and create a life free from violence. Apart from being a counselor, Christina is also a certified Empowerment Coach through my school, the S.W.A.T. Institute.
Having had a tough upbringing, Christina thinks back to the abuse she and her mother faced at the hands of her alcoholic father. She distinctly remembers being a 14-year-old girl, deciding that she would never repeat this cycle and end up with a man like her dad. As a counselor, she knows that children who’ve grown up in that situation are at a higher risk of being with an abusive partner as an adult. This was something she was always very aware of not repeating.
Throughout her upbringing, the “constant” in her life was her always mother, who was also her best friend. When Christina was 36, she lost her mom to cancer and it completely devasted her. Christina realized just how fragile life is and that someone you love can be taken in a heartbeat. It was then she began to look much closer at what brought her joy and happiness and what drained or exhausted her.
Over the course of the next ten years, Christina dedicated herself to her personal growth and transformation. She became a certified Empowerment Coach through the S.W.A.T. Institute, as well as a Gentle Trauma Release Practitioner. Christina realized that although her husband wasn’t abusive, their marriage wasn’t bringing either of them happiness; and after 27 years together, she emboldened herself to leave. Divorce was tough, and the next few years weren’t easy. But Christina knew that she had to stay focused on the dream she believed in and the life she wanted.
Today, Christina is happily remarried and her two beautiful adult children are both thriving. She has launched her own business called Confident After Fifty — offering support to women in rebuilding their confidence, healing traumatic memories, gaining clarity on their purpose, and helping them reach their goals.
