Our featured “Simply…Woman Superstar” this week is Abigail Nadar Nepaul.

Get ready to be inspired by a brilliant, driven, breathtakingly beautiful, kind, and wise woman, who has also experienced shocking tragedy and heartbreak yet, came out the other side to use her life to inspire and empower others.

I first met Abigail Nadar Nepaul when I chose her to be an author in my first compilation book, Simply…Woman! Stories from 30 magnificent women who have risen against the odds. (Released on March 8th, 2018)

Abigail, a 38-year-old married mum to two little girls aged 3 and 5, is also an Attorney, Notary, and Conveyancer who works with her husband at their law firm based in Durban, South Africa. But what impressed me most about Abigail was her ability to share one of the most heart-wrenching stories with such grace and wisdom. After learning more about Abigail, I knew she just had that magical “it-factor” that is gifted to a rare few.

Even though Abigail grew up attending an all-girls school in South Africa, where most of the students were white, she channeled the love she received from her Indian parents to propel her into greatness. Abigail not only achieved top marks academically but year after year, she’d win her school’s Public Speaking competitions and Debates. By the time she was in grade 12, she knew she wanted to be a lawyer.

Going to law school wasn’t a traditional path taken by her family; her parents worked in construction and the garment industry. Still, Abigail dreamed of wearing beautiful suits and going to court to argue on behalf of her clients. She was so happy when she arrived at the University of KwaZulu-Natal to study law.

As luck would have it, one day on her drive to school, Abigail heard an advertisement on the radio station, Lotus FM, looking for a new on-air presenter. On a whim, Abigail applied. She had no journalism or radio experience, and although there were hundreds of other applicants, she figured you couldn’t win if you didn’t try. Looking back, Abigail laughs because when she won the prized new presenter position, her parents had to come in to sign her contract as she wasn’t 21 yet, and was still considered a minor in South Africa. She would be on the air at Lotus FM for ten years!

For a girl who came from simple beginnings, life was looking great for Abigail, and yet sadly, that is precisely when tragedy fell upon her and the family. In an unbelievable tale of femicide, Abigails’ mother’s best friend, who was like an auntie to her, was murdered — shot and killed by her husband — in front of Abigail. Abigail shares the full story in our book, Simply…Woman.

What could have spiraled Abigail into a complete state of post-traumatic stress became her driving force to become that attorney and help other women. After years of studying and working hard, you can imagine her mother and father as they beamed with pride, snapping photos and fussing over her — their only child — as she was sworn into the highest court of South Africa. Abigail became not only an Attorney but was also one of the youngest Notary and Conveyancer in the country!

Abigail is now taking our Empowerment Coach Certification at the S.W.A.T. Institute and is just getting ready to graduate. Her vision is to raise her two precious daughters, balancing her love for them and her husband with her own dreams of empowering teenage girls and women with her coaching, courses, and inspirational talks. I’m waiting to see Abigail on the big screen one day as a world-renowned leader for women!

I believe it’s in her cards!

To watch my interview live with Abigail, join us on Thursday, September 3rd, at 1 pm ET / 7 pm SAST here!
