Empowerment with the New Moon in Sagittarius
By Allyson O’Hara-Cribdon
New Moon ♐ 20⁰ 40’ 12 December 2023 at 15:32 PST / 18:32 EST
How can observing the Moon’s cycles empower us?
We are all deeply connected to the Moon and her rhythms whether we realize it or not; scientists in many fields, including chronobiology, have been studying this phenomenon.1 Each lunar cycle essentially is a process of transformation with a beginning, middle, and end. The Ancients understood this and tuned into the rhythm of Luna’s cycles as a sacred map to navigate all aspects of life, discovering that traveling through the eight cycles and taking inspired action steps provide a potent way to ground themselves, set intentions, and tap into dynamic possibilities to manifest opportunities to create joy and abundance. The same holds true for us today!
When we know the lunar phase through which we are traveling, when we know the qualities and characteristics of the phase, we can prepare for our responses – especially our emotional responses – under the lunar influences. We will thus feel more empowered because we have a magical navigation device that helps us get a sense of the environment through which we are journeying. With this knowledge, we gain a sense of control, and we can make decisions accordingly.
Knowing the vibrations of each lunar phase is similar to being invited to a party. When you know the type of party it is, you can choose the appropriate attire for the event. For example, if you were invited to a game-night party at a friend’s house, you would probably wear something comfortable and causal rather than the little black dress that you wore at your work’s annual fundraising gala. Thus, with the awareness of the qualities of the party, you can make informed decisions.
So, let us take a look at the basic vibrations for the New Moon in Sagittarius and at some inspired action steps to provide us with some guidance.
The Basic Astrology
On the eve of the last Mercury ♑ Retrograde for 2023, December’s warm and inviting New Moon in Sagittarius inspires collaborative energy that raises us into higher vibrational frequency thoughts and emotions, promoting the expansion of our desires in alignment with our highest good, bringing forth a sense of Hope and Grace, enhancing intentions and wishes which focus on empowerment through authentic solution-based action, and strengthening our optimism and determination. Also, on this potent 12:12 day, reflecting the culmination of the intentions we created on 1:1 (1 January), the Cosmos invites us to reflect on the past year as we plan for 2024, to align with a sense of personal responsibility and take ownership of our lives, to let go of anything that hinders our progress, to embrace harmony in our lives, and to trust the higher vibrational visions that we are creating toward 2024.
This New Moon reminds us that Magic appears outside our comfort zone, offering a cornucopia of opportunities. As the luminaries partner with Mars ♐, our New Moon intentions receive extra fire and enthusiasm whilst our entrepreneurial and adventurous endeavors are strengthened with optimism and determination. If we have been contemplating taking inspired action on a particular venture, as the luminaries partner with the North Node ♈, Chiron ℞♈, and Eris ℞♈, the Cosmos encourages us to take the leap, even if we are uncertain about the outcome, which Neptune ♓ interacting with the Moon may amplify: we can trust that a plethora of magnificent potential paths are waiting for us.
Luna dancing with Saturn ♓ strengthens both the positivity of our taking inspired action and our trust that the Universe supports us as the Law of Attraction manifestation aligns strongly with the intentions that we vibrate: when we trust that we will succeed, we will.
Then, whilst Luna waltzing with Jupiter ℞♉ energizes the theme of empowerment through learning, teaching, exploring new cultures, embarking on adventures, contemplating the meaning of life, and celebrating life, her tango with Uranus ℞♉ encourages us to course-correct and re-align where needed so that we can both embrace our authentic selves and share our unique gifts and talents perfected over many incarnations with others.
Lastly, with the peaking of the colorful Geminids Meteor showers associated with the physical and metaphysical mythological twins Castor and Pollox, our New Moon intentions are energized as we harmonize our mind, heart, and intuition when we engage in this creative process.
How can we effectively embrace the New Moon energies and receive clear guidance?
Meditate with your Heart
As this is a 12:12 power day, the New Moon energies favor focusing on our higher knowing and on self-reflection through a simple 5- to 20-minute meditation. As you close your eyes, ground yourself into the warmth of Mother Earth. Then, focus on the magnificent crystal that is your Heart Centre. As you continue to focus, allow yourself to be taken deeper within, relaxing into the emotions and images that appear with each slow and steady breath. Allow yourself to expand and enjoy this space, reminding yourself to make note of your experience after your meditation.
To enhance your meditation experience, you can hold a piece of Turquoise, a stone associated with Sagittarius which deepens your intuition, guides you during times of transition and change when you may fear the unknown, and calms an over-active mind.
You can also tune into the three Angels of the Zodiac2 – higher octave Messengers of Light and Sacred Wisdom present during the peak of every lunar phase – for guidance. For this New Moon, the Period Ruler is Gabriel, who inspires us to reflect on our thoughts and emotions and who brings in new information. The Zodiac Phase Ruler is Nanael who symbolizes truth, enhances our introspective experience, and assists with communication whilst the Zodiac Degree Ruler is Sehaliah who symbolizes willingness, strengthens our motivation, and helps us move forward in new learning and life opportunities.
Draw a Card Spread with your Favourite Decks
Calling in the energies of this New Moon, including those of the Angels of the Zodiac, and drawing a card spread with the following questions can offer additional guidance:
1. What do I need to be aware of to align with a sense of personal responsibility and ownership of my life as I reflect on 2023 and look toward 2024?
2. How can I trust my higher vibrational visions and effectively take the leap into the unknown, confident that positive outcomes await me?
3. What Inspired Action Steps can I take in order to create clear intentions in alignment with my Authentic Empowered Self for this lunar cycle?
As you observe your cards, pay attention to the feelings that you receive from the image and the written word and note anything that arises in addition to answers to the questions.
Closing Thoughts
Now that you have both an idea of the cosmic environment shimmering in our skies during this Sagittarius New Moon and a few other ideas to enhance your New Moon practices, you may feel more empowered to shoot some arrows, see where they land on your magical life path, and enjoy the journey unfolding ahead.
