Society tells women everything they shouldn’t be. They learn to fear certain body shapes, avoid showing specific emotions, and never say anything other than a polite word. It creates an unhealthy atmosphere that destroys your self-confidence, which is one thing every woman deserves. This guide has a few easy ways to gain more confidence this year and shed negative expectations of yourself.
1. Face One of Your Fears
Everyone’s afraid of something. Maybe you’re nervous about joining a knitting club because you don’t know how to stitch, or you’ve dyed your hair for years to cover naturally gray strands. Fear is the biggest obstacle to self-confidence, so face something that makes you nervous.
You could dye your hair gray to match your natural strands and embrace the beauty that comes with aging. Jump into that new hobby and learn to enjoy building skills from the ground up. Once you try it, you’ll find more room for confidence in your heart because fear goes away.
2. Try a New Form of Exercise
Watching your body accomplish new feats of strength or endurance is rewarding. You may not exercise right now because it seems monotonous, so consider fun physical activities that can replace treadmill jogging or indoor cycling. Kayaking with a local club or joining a dance class will boost your confidence as your body becomes stronger.
3. Rethink Your Wardrobe
The wrong clothes will steal anyone’s confidence. Maybe you’ve worn the same clothes for a decade or don’t know very much about fashion. This year, restore your self-confidence by dressing in an authentic style that makes you feel invincible.
Simple additions can make a big difference. Consider wearing a maxi dress once or twice a week during the summer. They come in various aesthetics and convert from daywear to nightwear with a quick change in accessories. Interchangeable clothes are the best way to upgrade your style and renew your confidence in your appearance.
4. Establish Monthly Goals
Setting small goals and checking them off of your to-do list stimulates your dopamine production to create more of the feel-good hormone. Dopamine can also translate into confidence because you accomplished something you set out to achieve.
Make small monthly goals to experience more confidence every week. You could set a date to mow your lawn, clean out your refrigerator, or volunteer in your community. No matter what you decide to do, accomplishing that task by the due date will result in immediate confidence by activating your neurotransmitters.
5. Defeat Negative Self-Talk
It’s challenging to catch your stream of consciousness in action. It happens instantly and moves on to other thoughts just as fast, but try to focus on catching negative self-talk. People often think negatively about themselves when they assume they can’t do something, or even when they look in the mirror.
When those thoughts happen, take their power away by encouraging yourself. Your self-talk will become routinely positive and foster long-term confidence with time and practice.
