crystal's books that matter: dark side with debbie ford
The Dark Side of The Light Chasers
I’m a lover of books. They’re literally my addiction. I’ve been an avid reader since I was four years old. If someone were to ask me what has helped me most through my toughest times I would reply: God and books (in that order).
There’s no disputing it; I must have hundreds and hundreds of books that fill my office. I haven’t even read half of them yet, but still I order more. Anything that catches my eye I invest in, knowing that one day, when I’m looking for a specific answer or solutions, the perfect book will be sitting on my shelf, staring straight back at me.
Certain books, nonetheless, remain in a special section on my shelves called, “Crystal’s Favorites”. These are my “go-to” books. When in doubt, I can open anyone of these literary salves and know that healing is not far off.
Today, I want to share with you a book I first read in 2004 by my friend and mentor, the late great, Debbie Ford.
I had just been signed to Hay House Publishing and Hay House Radio. Debbie was another featured author and radio host. As I listened to her emboldened style of coaching on-air each week, I felt as though I needed to know this woman. I really connected with her (as many of us have!). I’d often find myself laughing out loud at how brazen she was, and yet I knew she was speaking the truth.
Within a few months, we became friends. She was the first person in my life to ever really say it to me straight and still be super loving. There was no sugarcoating anything with Debbie; and once I realized she was a true Light Worker, I knew I needed to read her best-selling book, The Dark Side of the Light Chasers.
What a life-changing experience!
At first, I wondered why Debbie was so interested in the “dark side” that’s within each of us. Why not just focus on the good, the light, the positive? So I asked her. This was her response:
“You can recite all the positive affirmations you want but if you don’t deal with the negative aspects of yourself that you’ve been ashamed of facing, you’ll stay fragmented for the rest of your life. It’s like putting ice cream on a pile of poop. Poop stinks no matter how much ice-cream you put on top!”
As I read The Dark Side of the Light Chasers and did every single “practical exercise” in it, something began shifting inside. I soon realized the people in my life were simply mirrors, showing me what I loved most about myself and what I couldn’t see about myself. They were helping me recognize and make peace with my own dark side. The breakthroughs continued to come. Years later when I re-read The Dark Side of the Light Chasers, I still find myself having “aha” moments. Yes! It’s that good!
In this new revised version (release in 2010), Debbie added new material, but it is still a short, easy read. http://www.amazon.ca/The-Dark-Side-Light-Chasers/dp/1594485259
The Dark Side of the Light Chasers will forever remain one of my go-to books, as will Debbie Ford herself, forever remain a mentor and friend in my heart. Rest in peace, my darling.
Warmly,
Crystal
