Being Empowered in Unprecedented Times
By Nancy Depina
We all know that living during these unprecedented times can be challenging and even deadly. We are questioning our lives and readjusting our lives to this new and unprecedented time in our lives. Many of us are able to work from home while many others are unemployed. Many of us are working while cooking, cleaning, and homeschooling our kids. Many are on the frontlines like the doctors and nurses trying to save the lives of others while they’re family is home awaiting their return.
In the midst of all this madness and unfamiliarity, fear and worry begin to creep in our minds. We worry about our families and their safety. We worry about our ability to be able to provide and protect our families. Continuing on this path often leads to frustration and stress and sometimes depression. Thinking like this only leads us down a path of self-destruction and debilitates our immune system. Fear and worry will not keep us healthy.
So how can we live while being empowered in these unprecedented times? How can we empower ourselves while empowering others? We must first start with connecting with our inner selves. This is when we really need to quiet all the voices on the outside of ourselves. We need to be able to hear our inner voices guide us on our path of empowerment. We must quiet down the thoughts of fear, worry or even death. We must connect with our inner god. We must remind ourselves to stay calm and trust that this too shall pass.
In the meantime, while waiting for this to pass, we must stay in the present moment and focus on our self care and all the good that can come out of these unprecedented times. Make sure you make time for yourself first thing in the morning to do something meaningful for yourself. Have a cup of warm tea, meditate or listen to some inspiring music. Go for a walk, do some yoga or exercise especially outdoors when possible. Call and check on your loved ones on zoom or FaceTime. You are physically distant, but we can be emotionally close. Spend quality time with your children if you have any. Prepare healthy meals for you and your family to help keep your immune systems strong.
When we quell our fears and our worries and trust, we can be more present in our gratitude. By focusing more on the good, we feel better. We eat better. We do better. Our immune systems stay healthier. So do not let the fear and the worry win. You control your mind. Just trust and find all the good that can come from these unprecedented times. I am trusting that we will come out stronger and wiser once this passes. We will be reminded what matters most in life-LOVE-both self love and our love for others.
