Become A Wabi Sabi Spiritual Warrior
By Arielle Ford
One of my most effective “surviving and thriving” tools is the practice of Wabi Sabi. Known predominantly as an ancient Japanese aesthetic that honors all things old, worn, imperfect and impermanent, Wabi Sabi seeks to find the beauty and perfection in imperfection.
Between Covid-19 and the crashing economy coupled with epic levels of uncertainty and instability, it’s easy to notice everything that is wrong in the world.
I believe it is the job of the spiritual warrior to look for what’s right, to see the light, in spite of all of the painful and dark circumstances.
I’m not in any way minimizing what we are going through, or sticking my head in the sand, but rather broadening the lens to seek out the gifts and benefits of these times.
The images of the incredible reduction of pollution in Beijing, Los Angeles, New Delhi and other places is mind blowing. More than once we were trapped in airports in Beijing and Delhi for days because of air pollution and zero visibility, so to have this kind of transformation in less than six weeks seems like magic.
When I find myself “wishing” things were different, I close my eyes, drop into my heart, and ask myself “what’s good or what good will come from this?” The asking of the question opens up all kinds of creative and imaginative answers and generally lifts feelings of anger or discontent. And, in this situation and process the person I am learning the most about is me!
Wishing you love, laughter and magical kisses,
Arielle
