Embrace the Marvellous WoMom You Are!
by Beverly Pickard.
“Completely marvellous moms know just how amazing they are and aren’t afraid to tell themselves just how independent, courageous and truly beautiful they are!” – Beverly Pickard
Do you know just how marvellous you are as a mom and as a woman?! Think of all the things you can do, know and share with the world. Mothers are able to create life, love life and be life. You have the strength and power within in you create a life and deliver it into this world, to love completely your child(ren) and to be there life so they may flourish and grow. As moms we give life to others but then forget to be life for ourselves.
Make a list of all the things you are good at, love to do and that fill you up inside… things that are all just yours: what you’ve accomplished in life, things you love to do that make you feel happy and filled with joy. But wait, “What am I really good at,” you ask? I spend all of my time focusing on telling my kids what they are good at, supporting my partner in his career, tooting other people’s horns. Well now it’s time to toot your own horn. Shout it from the mountain tops “I AM A COMPLETELY MARVELLOUS MOM!” I am good at_________(fill in the blank.)
For many of us the thought of telling ourselves or others what we are good at, that we are pretty, sexy, smart, strong or brave seems foreign, almost wrong. Do you believe that acknowledging your strengths is being conceited or putting someone else down? Oh, and we don’t want to do that, because we worry about how everyone else feels and wouldn’t want someone to feel badly because we’ve admitted we have strength. There is a difference between being arrogant and self-righteous and being confident and believing in yourself. Let me say that a different way – You can believe in yourself and acknowledge your strengths without being selfish or self-absorbed.
We spend so much of our life looking at our faults, what we can’t do, what’s wrong with our bodies, or that we aren’t smart enough. Instead, starting today I ask you to begin acknowledging what you are good at, how beautiful you truly are and embracing your strengths. It will take some courage and some time to open yourself up to a new way of thinking about yourself. It’s time to quiet that inner critic, that voice that wants to keep you safe but instead berates and demeans you into thinking you aren’t enough.
It’s time for you to create your Completely Marvellous Mom Box filled with words, pictures, and mementos that remind you of just how completely marvellous you are. Start by finding, making, or buying a box that you love and that says YOU in the truest of ways. Then, start to fill that box with things that remind you of your uniqueness, your strengths, your accomplishments and achievements. Each day write down on a piece of paper something about yourself that is truly marvellous, completely amazing and just fantastic. Place that slip of paper inside your Completely Marvellous Mom Box along with your mementos and photos, and then say out load for the Universe to hear “I AM COMPLETELY MARVELLOUS!” Shout it from the mountain tops, say it aloud to yourself and to others every day! I AM COMPLETELY MARVELLOUS – LOOK WHAT I CAN DO! It’s time to start supporting yourself and affirming what you have accomplished and what you will accomplish. Add to your box things you want to accomplish and achieve. Believe you have already achieved them!
Think of how your children will learn to be confident in themselves and their abilities when they see a mom who is confident in her abilities and herself. This confidence is something that comes from inside you that you must believe in yourself first. Why not involve your children and have them create a box of their accomplishments and their words of what makes them great? We are all completely marvellous in our own unique way and the sooner we begin to acknowledge, believe and accept that, the sooner we will accept our magnificence as women and moms.
Please share photos of your COMPLETELY MARVELLOUS MOM BOX and the words you’ve placed inside with me at BeverlyPickard.com. Don’t forget to tell yourself each time you add something to your box, “I AM COMPLETELY MARVELLOUS!”
