Who are the Most Celebrated Women in the World?

The answer is easy – mothers, of course. You all know why but it’s worth reiterating as their special day approaches on May 14th.

She’s the one whose work is never done, has the patience of Job, gives unselfishly, encourages, pours out love even when it’s not deserved, and brings strength to the family even when she feels that she might not have any more energy.

What about all the household tasks like cooking, cleaning, preparing meals, laundry, and doing dishes? How about car-pooling, PTA meetings, and doctor’s appointments – just to name a few.

You might say that’s the “old-time” Mom. Women today have dishwashers, microwaves, air fryers, and some even have housekeepers and live-in nannies. Granted, those devices and persons are a great help but at the end of the day, it’s the mother in the home who bears the brunt of the responsibility for orchestrating these tasks.

Let’s talk about those “super moms” who do it all – full-time jobs outside the home, jobs at home, in the community at large, and sometimes in the rest of the world. She radiates happiness, seems unfrazzled, and always looks beautiful. Nothing is too much or too hard for her to accomplish. In fact, she’s very accomplished. She holds a degree or several degrees from accredited universities and is very intelligent and wise. There’s nothing that she can’t do. Ordinary moms or supermoms – you are needed!

Mothering is a big job. As the mother of a grown child myself, I know that there are two sides to mothering. There are happy, loving times with your child and there are times when you feel like a complete failure as a mother. At those times, you just hang in there and do the best you can. You’re not perfect and your child isn’t either.

According to author, Donna Ball: “Motherhood is a choice you make every day to put someone else’s happiness and well-being ahead of your own, to teach the hard lessons, to do the right thing even when you’re not sure what the right thing is, … and to forgive yourself over and over again for doing everything wrong.”

Whether you’re a stay-at-home Mom, a working Mom, or fit any other kind of mothering role, your child is, of course, the reason for you being a mom. Enjoy the precious moments with your child but give yourself the necessary time to recharge and replenish too.

Your child will not stay little and depend on you for the rest of their life. Babies grow up and young children grow into teenagers and then into adults. If your child is happy and well-adjusted, that’s the most important thing to you as their mother.

However, when your child is all grown up, you are still their mother. Emotionally, your job as a mother never ends. From birth to the time your child leaves the nest and beyond that, your concern and love for your child will never end. “Give the ones you love wings to fly, roots to come back, and reasons to stay.” ~ Dalai Lama.

To all mothers out there, it’s not about perfection but about just doing the best that you can in each moment. You deserve to be celebrated. Enjoy your special day!
