3 Ways to Reconnect with Yourself This Year and Say Goodbye To Comparison
Social media culture puts the highest demands on families- specifically moms- to do everything, be everything, and say everything perfectly. But what would happen if we changed the narrative? What if instead of letting everyone’s expectations dictate the season, we reconnected to ourselves in order to have a purpose-driven, aligned life? What if moms were truly connected with their soul’s purpose? What if they were mindful of how they actually feel about what they’re doing instead of just doing what’s expected of them? We spoke with intuitive soul guide, Steph Palermo who shared her tips for staying connected with your intuition and living a purpose-driven life, and you should stop comparing yourself on social media.
Here are 3 ways to reconnect with yourself this year that will help you live your best purpose-driven life and say goodbye to comparison:
1. Extreme Self-Care.
While this might seem super obvious to some, it’s probably the area moms least invest in throughout the year. Before you plan out this week’s family agenda, take time for yourself. Do an at-home spa day, make yourself your favorite beverage, and simply sit, ideally in quiet. When you’re in self-care mode you can take the time to connect with your soul and allow your intuition to come to the forefront. Most of us push aside our intuition when we’re stuck in the comparison hamster wheel. But that’s doing a disservice to yourself and your loved ones. Instead, be guided by your intuition and you’ll see how happy and purpose-driven every day can be even for moms.
If you’re not able to plan out some quiet time with all of the kids at home, at least aim for a couple of minutes every day to quiet your thoughts and ask yourself- How am I feeling? What is on my mind? When you’re able to care for yourself, you’re also able to care for others with more compassion and nurture.
2. Take note of how you feel.
When you’ve taken the time to prioritize self-care, you’ll also have the space to recognize how you’re feeling. If you start the day happy and carefree but then encounter a situation where you suddenly feel stressed, you’ll know that thing isn’t aligned with your soul. Maybe that’s something you can say, “no” to. Maybe that person isn’t someone you want to spend time with. Or maybe that activity just isn’t for you and your family. Maybe you need to unfollow that channel that stirs up feelings of inadequacy in you, or maybe you need to take a break from social media.
Connecting with yourself is giving yourself permission to say yes to the things that light you up. And to say no to the things that don’t. Did talking to that person fill your cup? Do more of that! Did taking your kids to see the park bring you joy? Find more ways to have fun with the kids! Did that TikTok video make you laugh? Follow more content like that! Just make sure you stay connected with yourself in the process. When you disconnect from yourself- you end up saying yes to things that aren’t aligned with your soul and can end up feeling drained. So remember to ask yourself- does this light me up? And say yes to those things.
3. Be mindful of your body.
Did you know that stress can cause physical pain and other symptoms? Most moms are no strangers to stress. This year, instead of just accepting it and trying to push through, let’s make a change. Now that you’re prioritizing self-care and taking note of how you feel, it’s time to start listening to your body. Do you find yourself clenching your jaw or fists? Do you have an immediate physical reaction to a certain activity or group of people? Or are you feeling joy and excitement? Is your heart warmed by those extra snuggles? All of these things are signals from your body that will guide you to choosing things that align with your soul and help you to live that purpose-driven life you’ve been dreaming about.
A purpose-driven and aligned life, guided by your soul’s purpose means that you’re connected with yourself, you’re listening to your intuition, you’re quieting the distractions, and you’re done listening to comparison. Distractions can come in the form of unwanted expectations, people’s opinions, toxic relationships, and even just day-to-day life. This year you have the opportunity to slow down and allow yourself to reconnect with your intuition. Let it guide your soul to find the most purpose-driven moments for you. Have the freedom to let it look different than it has before. Give yourself permission to be flexible. And most importantly stay connected to yourself this year. A mom connected with herself is a mom that can help her family do the same- and that’s a powerful thing to do.
