SOME NUTTY FACTS YOU DIDN'T KNOW ABOUT NUTS
By Zuzana Friedmann
Are you looking for a new healthy snack to throw into your diet? It may sound nuts, but nuts may precisely what you’re looking for and what your body needs!
Did you know that nuts contain fiber, protein, healthy fats, b-vitamins, and minerals? Since there are nine calories in each gram of fat, I advise enjoying them in moderation. In general, nuts should be eaten raw and fresh, mid-morning or mid-afternoon, and not much more than a handful. I recommend storing them in glass jars, preferably in the refrigerator, or even the freezer.
ALMONDS
Their fat content is less than most. Studies have shown that specifically fat from Almonds may play a role in increasing gut bacteria. They also enhance antibody production and have anti-cancerous properties.
CASHEWS
Calcium is lower in cashews than any other nut. They are also known for lower fat and higher carbohydrate levels. Cashews enhance the body’s ability to cope with stress.
PISTACHIOS
Are green in color thanks to their Chlorophyll content. Pistachio consumption has been linked to increased antioxidants in the blood, improved heart health and may even decrease your risk of lung cancer.
WALNUTS
Are real brain food. They are the only nut that contains omega-3 fatty acids! Walnuts also provide a modest amount of B-vitamins, E-vitamin, and potassium.
BRAZIL NUTS
Are known as a high mineral content nut. They are rich in calcium, magnesium, selenium, and zinc. Research shows that selenium is effective in the fight against prostate cancer.
HAZELNUTS
Have the highest vitamin E levels of the nuts; therefore they are excellent to aid in cell renewal and repair. They also can treat acne, dermatitis, and some types of eczema. Its extract is even used in cosmetics.
PECANS
Eating Pecans regularly, could lower blood cholesterol and improves blood lipid balance.
To get the most out of your nutty snack, enjoy daily and in moderation
