25 Reasons I Love Nature
By Nicole Moorey.
Dear Nature,
It’s hard to believe that we’re celebrating 6 months of outdoor adventures together! For half a year, our half-hour daily dates have been a beautiful journey into empowered living.
To commemorate this special milestone and in celebration of the New Year, I wanted to find an extra special way to express my appreciation for all that you’ve given me so far. As luck would have it, I came across an article by Richard Louv, champion of the restorative powers of nature, that inspired this letter of gratitude for you. He shares the story of a family who no longer enjoyed holiday shopping, so instead of buying each other presents, each would write a love letter to the other family members. The love letters would list at least twenty-five reasons why the recipient was loved or valued.
So in the spirit of that family’s heartfelt ritual, I’m happy to share these 25 reasons why I love Nature.
1. You’re always there for me. No matter what my mood, what time of the day, whatever the weather, all I have to do is open the door and you welcome me with open arms.
2. You help me see things from a new perspective. After time spent with you, I always come away with new and helpful insight.
3. You freely give of yourself. There’s no financial cost to reap your rewards.
4. Al fresco makes the ordinary extraordinary.
5. You’re my fitness fairy godmother, graciously granting me physical, emotional, mental and spiritual well-being.
6. You make me feel alive! Your awe inspiring grandeur inspires the best in me.
7. Your seasons keep my life balanced. Through you, I see how everything has a time and a place. Summer’s physical action and fall’s introspection and insight were beautiful preludes to winter’s thoughts and spring’s spirit.
8. Your fluffy snowflakes falling softly from a rosy sky.
9. Your peaceful silence in a winter forest.
10. You ease my mind. Like a natural re-set button, you breathe fresh air into my stale worries or beliefs.
11. You listen to me. There’s no judgement, only acceptance and respect.
12. You encourage my dreams. With you, I’m learning that I create my own destiny with a passionate idea plus daily progress.
13. Your infinite innovation.
14. You show me who I really am. Sometimes I forget. I’m optimistic, light, and joyful – with you, it all comes back.
15. Even when I don’t want to be with you (in -51°with the wind chill, for example), I always benefit from our time together.
16. You smell great!
17. You love my children. You’re a trustworthy mentor, effortlessly guiding them in becoming their best selves too.
18. Your nourishment is delicious perfection.
19. The symphony of colour in your sunrises and sunsets.
20. The clarity of your starry sky.
21. You’re my greatest ally in conquering my fears.
22. Your creativity is contagious.
23. The way you pink my cheeks, sparkle my eyes and warm my soul.
24. The way you teach me about gratitude in every moment, for everything.
25. The way you’re making me a better person who will continue your legacy of health and happiness.
I write this to inspire everyone to experience these incredible gifts for themselves.
I write this to inspire everyone to write their own New Year’s love letters to their beloveds.
I write this to persuade everyone to write with reckless abandon about everything they love about themselves! Self-love is the secret (in Nature, or not). How will you nurture that love in 2014?
Yours outdoors,
Nicole
