I am a firm believer that snacking is a healthy part of keeping your body fuelled in between meals and keeping your metabolism running efficiently, however as much as snacking can help it can also hurt your healthy diet.  The difference depends on what you choose and how many calories the snacks contain. Many of my clients ask me what are some examples of  healthy snacks that they can have in between their  meals that would not jeopardize the total number of  daily calories, so I thought of listing a few which I eat that keep my energy levels up and stave off hunger until my next meal.

1. 12 almonds ( I say a hand-full, however that leads too much room for error, hence 12)

2. 1 cup of skim milk, almond milk, rice or soy milk. almond and soya milk can be vanilla flavour which has a slight sweetness. I sometimes make latte’s with both by adding a tsp of instant coffee* make sure the soy milk is non G.M. (genetically modified)

3. 1/2 cup of cottage cheese or non fat yogurt with 1/4 cup chopped strawberries or blueberries

4. 1/2 an apple with 1/2 oz of reduced fat cheese

5. Hard boiled egg with a few celery sticks (at the beginning of the week I always boil about 8 eggs and keep them in the fridge so that way I have an easy and accessible snack any time)

6. Banana

7. 1/2 cup of Fibre ! the Crunchy original w/ 1/2 cup unsweetened almond milk ( this is about 130 calories but super filling because of the fiber content)

8. 1/2 half toasted whole grain English muffin with a thin slice of reduced cheese and a slice of tomato

9. Small bag ( approx 45) steamed edamame. This is one of my favourites

10. 2 cups of raspberries
